Drain Clearance

Blocked Drains Truro

Before attempting to clear a blocked drain, we will determine the exact type of drainage system. Most properties use a single stack system. This is where the waste water pipe and soil pipes all connect into a single stack. Because the drains run underground, the simplest and most sensible system has them running in straight lines between inspection chambers. Although we can clear out the vast majority of blockages without having to dig up the pipes, it is best for us to ascertain the layout of your drains. The inspection chambers or manholes are installed with the system at the points where pipes join to make both maintenance and servicing easier. If you suffer from blocked drains, Truro based Westcountry Drains can get them running properly again.

Some older properties have rectangular inspection chambers built using bricks, often with cast iron covers. These were replaced with newer plastic chambers with steel covers making them far more resilient and protecting from corrosion and wear. Older homes can develop more complex problems, prior to 1940, most systems had two separate pipe systems for waste. From the late 1950s until the mid 1970s pitch fibre pipes were used as an economic alternative to ceramic or metal pipes, these were phased out when it became apparent that pitch fibre was not durable enough for waste water. Using natural fibres impregnated with tar based pitch, these drains cause innumerable problems as the walls of the pipe slowly collapse over time.
